Paynesville, Montserrado County – The ruling Unity Party has received a severe warning from the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), led by Commander-in-Chief Emmanuel Gonquoi, who claims that the party is doing poorly and is disregarding the suffering of the Liberian people.
“The sleepy lion is not a dead lion,” said CIC Gonquoi during a district leadership ceremony. The head of EFFL blasted the administration for failing to keep commitments to the people during the last two years.
“The Unity Party was given two years. Two whole years. Additionally, they have not taken the essential actions for the individuals and the broader public,” Gonquoi said.
Gonquoi further emphasized that the EFFL is ready to return to politics with fresh vigor and direction. “I can promise them that the Liberian Economic Freedom Fighters would be back very soon. The Armed Forces of Liberia, the Liberia National Police, and even the NSA do not frighten us.”
He likewise condemned public servants for their lack of responsiveness and disengagement from the populace. “Mr. President, working for your administration does not imply silence; we are keeping an eye on you. Every time we call a minister on the phone, they never even bother to answer. However, we will be pursuing them shortly. We gave them power; if we are prepared today, we will deprive them of it.”
Some have interpreted the speech as an indication of rising discontent among former supporters of the Unity Party-led government, sparking political debate across the nation. Gonquoi’s speech marks a change in tone and the potential resurgence of the EFFL, which is well-known for its radical stance and pro-poor lobbying. The organization has been comparatively silent in recent months. As Liberia’s political climate continues to heat up, observers now await the EFFL’s next actions.
