Monrovia, Liberia – The claims that former vice president of the Republic of Liberia, Honorable Jewel Howard Taylor, was attacked by an unidentified assailant in the Duport Road area are being looked into by the Executive Protection Service (EPS), but no proof has been gathered to support these claims.

The assertion of the targeted attack, as reported in the media, could not be supported by the preliminary investigation EPS conducted.

According to the investigation, former vice president Jewel Taylor was in a convoy of two cars when one of the back windshields of the car made a noise that caused some minor damage. The media has implied that a car collided with the former vice president’s convoy, but there was no evidence of this.

A release from the EPS  Executive Director Sam Gaye, as soon as possible, the supposed occurrence site was searched, and residents of the neighborhood and passersby were questioned because no one had seen anyone hurling missiles towards the former vice president’s car.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing. Based on the current inquiry, there is a high likelihood that the vehicle’s back windshield was struck by pebbles from under the tire of a driving vehicle in the opposite lane. This theory is not definitive, though, as there is no proof that the former vice president was under threat, despite what has been stated.

The President, Vice President, members of their families, and other VIPs are required to have protection services provided by the Executive Protection Service.

The EPS clarified that it is not interested in political spin or baseless claims of targeted attacks intended to elicit pity from the public. Instead, it is focused in learning the truth about the circumstances surrounding occurrences relating to threats.

The EPS stated that it does not take lightly the security of its protectees and that it now employs two police officers and nearly six well-trained agents to provide services to the former vice president.

Three days ago, news circulated in the media that the former vice president convoy was attacked by unknown persons.

On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the Minister of Information Jerolinmek Piah informed the public that pro to the said incident, the government of Liberia headed by President Boakai sent security personal to the former president and vice president checking on them. He added the check included the security status of the two former Liberian leaders.
