Ex-LDEA Boss Lands $1.5M Win Against Fadiga Brothers.

Monrovia, Liberia – The Civil Law Court ruled Hassan and Hussein Fadiga responsible for libel and granted Abraham Kromah, the former director general of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), an astounding $1.5 million for general damages.

In his ruling on Monday, May 5, 2025, Judge George W. Smith ordered an extra $100,000 in punitive penalties to discourage similar wrongdoing and ruled that the defendants’ careless and defamatory activities justified serious financial repercussions.

Kromah filed a complaint on February 6, 2025, stating that the slanderous actions of the Fadigas had caused him to lose business and tarnish his reputation. By default, the judge decided against the defendants after they did not answer a summons sent to them on March 17.

Despite Kromah’s request for $5 million in total damages, including particular compensation for contract losses, the court decided that the precise damages were not adequately demonstrated in accordance with the law.

In addition to setting a precedent for responsibility in defamation cases, this decision represents a significant win for the former head of the LDEA.
