Faith and Justice Network Calls for Accountability and Transparency from Both Outgoing and incoming governments

Monrovia, Liberia – The Faith and Justice Network, a group dedicated to maintaining justice, equity, and openness in the Mano River Basin, said it will continue to push for accountability and transparency to be given top priority in both the incoming and exiting Liberian administrations.

Bishop Samuel Quire, the chairman of the network’s board and the leader of the United Methodist Church in Liberia, reaffirmed that the country’s citizens’ request for audits is a necessary tool to guarantee responsible governance and financial integrity rather than a political retaliation or witch hunt.

Bishop Quire made the call when he delivered his new year’s message on the theme “Audit is Not Witch Hunt: Churches in the Mano River Basin Advocate for Accountability and Transparency in the Public Sector” by the Faith and Justice Network in Monrovia on Monday, January 1, 2024.

“We firmly believe that transparency is not an option but an essential component for the progress and development of any nation. The Faith and Justice Network echoes the collective voice of the churches in the Mano River Basin, urging both the outgoing and incoming administrations of Liberia to prioritize accountability and transparency.”

He claimed that these actions would increase public confidence and open the door for the region to experience long-term prosperity and development.

“Given that Liberia is looking forward to the new government’s inauguration on January 22, 2024, it is critical to express caution and awareness regarding potential concerns that could affect the stability and advancement of our beloved country.”

According to Bishop Quire, the network is prepared to assist and engage with any and all parties committed to advancing these ideas for the benefit of Liberia and the Mano River Basin.

The potential glorification of wrongdoing, especially among the youth, has been observed in recent trends and observations in Liberia; he continued that, if uncontrolled, it might constitute a serious threat to the cohesion and prosperity of the country.
