FIBA Lifts Basketball Prohibition Against Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – The Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) has lifted the ban placed on the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA). The decision made by FIBA follows a recent rerun election in which new officials were elected by the Liberian Basketball Association in Paynesville, outside Mondovia.

The communication, dated November 27, 2023, is addressed to Abraham Samukai, President of the Liberia Basketball Association, and CC copies the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Liberia National Olympics Committee, FIBA Africa Zone 3, and FIBA Africa President.

Liberia will now take part in FIBA-organized competitions going forward as a result of the ruling. The Liberia Basketball Association’s stakeholders chose a new class of officials on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at an elective congress presided over by a FIBA agent.

Abraham Samukar won Jacob Kabakole by 26–25 votes from 49 voters. For Vice President of Administration, Yanqueh Borsay defeated Calvin Diggs by 30-23 votes, while Bruce Quaye won Edwin Fahnbulleh by 31-21 votes for Vice President of Operations. For Treasure, Malcom Joseph got a better score than Parker Barcolleh by 19-31 votes. For his part, Specket Neufville won unopposed as Chaiplain.
