First Lady, Peers Launch Climate Change, Conflict Resilience Campaign

Washington D.C, USA – A historic Climate Change and Conflict Resilience Campaign has been launched in the United States of America by Liberia’s First Lady, Madam Kartumu Y. Boakai, along with her international counterparts. The campaign emphasizes the pressing need to address the twin threats that threaten stability, sustainable development, and health.

During her remarks at the event, Madam Boakai emphasized her dedication to promoting humanitarian and health projects, promising to support initiatives that protect vulnerable people from wars and climate shocks. She also urged everyone to work together to address these global issues, emphasizing that cooperation and resilience are crucial to protecting future generations.

The first ladies introduced the Organization of African First Ladies for Development’s (OAFLAD) 2025–2027 campaign, which has as its theme “Building Resilience for Women and Girls in the Face of Climate Change and Conflict,” on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UNGA.

The launch of the climate change and resilience campaign drew global attention, uniting people dedicated to women empowerment.

The simultaneous concerns of conflict and climate change, according to Mrs. Boakai, are a “dangerous convergence” that is threatening lives and weakening peace throughout the continent. She promised to back the demand for women’s and children’s health in the 2025–2027 resilience campaign, citing the aspect that aligns with her vision.

“I promise to back this health campaign, which advocates for success despite conflict and climate change.” She emphasized that “when we are healthy, the aspirations of our nations, communities, and families stay alive.”

Liberia’s First Lady also reaffirmed her dedication to improving the lives of women and children as a champion for maternal and neonatal health.

In order to safeguard health systems, guarantee food security, and promote peace in the regions impacted by climate change, the campaign which connects first ladies, legislators, and international advocates is anticipated to raise funds, strengthen alliances, and promote solutions.

The occasion brought together leaders to mobilize vital financial and political assistance to preserve and strengthen the resilience of women and girls.
