Monrovia, Liberia – Foreign Minister, Dee Maxwell Kemayah, has commended the out-going Ambassador of the United States for the level of cooperation during his tour of duty in Liberia. Minister Kemaya thanked Ambassador Michael McCarthy, for his role he played in many initiatives geared towards improving the lives of the Liberian people.
At a farewell reception for the departing American ambassador, hosted by the government of Liberia and held in the ballroom of the Monrovia City Corporation, Minister Kemeyah offered the compliment.
Minister Kemeyah reiterated the government’s commitment to holding free, fair, and inclusive elections when discussing the 2023 presidential and legislative elections. He commended Ambassador McCarthy for the United States’ support in the areas of health, education, and other initiatives to better the lives of Liberians.
He claimed that in recent years, relations between the governments and peoples of Liberia and the United States have improved significantly.
Varney Sirleaf, the minister of internal affairs, also spoke during the event on behalf of President George Weah, the Liberian government, and the people, honoring and gowning Ambassador McCarthy.
The departing American ambassador was hailed by Minister Sirleaf as a loyal friend of Liberia who will be sorely missed.
Ambassador Michael McCarthy declared in his speech that he will always remember his time serving as the US ambassador to Liberia. The high level of press freedom in Liberia was praised by Ambassador McCarthy, who also hoped that foreign investors would benefit from the favorable business climate in the nation.
Senior government officials, including members of the National Legislature, executives, traditional leaders, and many others, attended the occasion, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
