Foreign Minister Nyanti Calls for Reclaiming African Diplomacy.

Monrovia, Liberia – The Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the formal opening of the Ambassador George Wallace Lecture and Seminar Series, which was led by H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti.

In Liberia’s foreign service, the historic ceremony, which was held in Monrovia on Friday, May 2, 2025, represented an important step in institutional innovation and indigenous diplomacy.

The President of the Republic of Liberia, Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., attended the event, which also marked the start of the Ambassadorial Lecture and Seminar Series. Other guests included academics, top government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Foreign Minister Nyanti emphasized in her speech the significance of regaining and strengthening Africa’s own diplomatic customs. She pointed out that “Africa and Liberia have been involved in diplomacy long before the modern state system.”

“The “Palava Hut” form of conflict resolution is an indigenous method used in Liberia that includes communication, agreement, and reconciliation. As we forge a new course for the continent, it is imperative that Africa elevate and standardize its own diplomatic norms, said Foreign Minister Nyanti.”

The foreign minister, reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to changing Liberia’s diplomatic environment. “We need to develop intellectual leaders who comprehend the history, participate in the present, and have an impact on the future not just diplomats. These projects are a component of that larger goal.”

In honor of one of Liberia’s most successful ambassadors, the Ambassador George Wallace Lecture and Seminar Series seeks to provide a stimulating forum for discussion, introspection, and strategic thinking. It will include researchers from throughout the world, seasoned diplomats, and foreign policy specialists who will help shape Liberia’s changing place in the world.

Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to promoting the country’s foreign policy by inclusive leadership, innovation, and capacity building, the ministry noted.
