Monrovia, Liberia – The importance of peace and stability in fostering sustainable development across the sub-region was emphasized by Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, during her remarks at the Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting.
The benefits of sustained peace efforts are evident in the stability that both Liberia and the wider Mano River Union (MRU) basin are currently enjoying, stressed Foreign Minister Nyanti.
Speaking at the high-level event, Foreign Minister Nyanti stressed that peace is not only essential for prosperity but also the cornerstone upon which the goals of the region may be built. In attendance were dignitaries and delegates from Japan and all around Africa.
In the years ahead, she expressed her hope that Liberia, led by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, will continue to uphold and strengthen this peace, creating the conditions for further growth and prosperity.
“Peace and security are the bedrock upon which the development of our nations depends. Liberia, along with our neighbors in the Mano River Union, has made significant strides in achieving and maintaining peace. This stability has been instrumental in creating an environment conducive to economic growth, social progress, and regional cooperation.”
The Minister went on to discuss Liberia’s path toward peace in more detail, emphasizing that the nation’s previous struggles had added significance to its current state of stability. “Liberia’s history is one of resilience. We have overcome tremendous obstacles, and today, we stand as a beacon of hope in the sub-region. The peace we enjoy is a collective achievement, and it is our duty to protect and nurture it.”
The Liberian government’s persistent commitment to preserving peace was another statement made by Foreign Minister Nyanti.
She commended President Boakai’s leadership and pointed out that his administration has made peacebuilding a top priority and a pillar of its strategy.
Foreign Minister Nyanti had the chance to reaffirm Liberia’s commitment to regional stability at the Tokyo International Conference for African Development, a significant forum for communication and collaboration between Japan and African countries.
She conveyed her appreciation to Japan and other global allies for their ongoing assistance to Liberia and the surrounding area.
