The Liberia National Police has begun an intensive investigation into the incident that took place at the Brewerville home of former Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia Gloria Musu Scott on Wednesday night, February 22, 2023, leading to the death of one of her children.

Madam Scott is currently under the proper police security, according to H. Moses Carter, the head of the Liberia National Police’s press and public affairs division. Carter reiterated the LNP’s commitment to making sure a thorough inquiry is conducted and the offenders are brought to justice.

Speaking on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism’s (MICAT) regular press briefing in Monrovia, it was revealed that the former Chief Justice had previously stated in a radio interview a few days earlier that her family had endured several attempts from alleged burglars to break into her home at night. According to the LNP spokesman, the report prompted a rise in police patrols in the Brewerville Community to protect the safety of the locals. Members of the public with relevant knowledge are also urged by the Leadership to assist the LNP in conducting a thorough inquiry.

    Police Spokes Man, Moses Carter

He said that preliminary findings from the incident on Wednesday night, which happened around 9:30 p.m. and was described by Madam Scott, showed that a man who was a member of a crew she hired to do some construction work at her house remained inside at the end of the workday while his colleagues had gone home for the day. Former Chief Justice Scott claimed that the individual she had seen during the day who appeared a little “strange” attacked her family at night and killed one of her daughters when he was tackled. The LNP is presently looking for the suspect, but preliminary investigation has turned up no proof of a break-in.

Meanwhile, Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson has openly recommended to Members of the Liberian Senate that a bill be crafted to allow Lawmakers to carry Personal Fire Arms to Protect themselves. Senator Johnson’s assertion comes barely few hours after the alleged brutal murder of the daughter of former senator and Chief Justice of Liberia Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott.

Following the reading of the agenda, President Pro-Tempore Albert T. Chie pleaded that his suggestion be place under AOB. The Senators in a heated argument raised concerns of the president pro- tempore decision to placed the matter under AOB on the 12th day sitting of the senate plenary. Upon reading of the agenda by the secretait of the Liberian senate, Grand Bassa County senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence requested that the matter be placed on the agenda for discussion before other items which the President Pro-Tempore forwarded to AOB.
