Monrovia, Liberia – The former National Chairman of the reigning Unity Party USA-Chapter, Fredrick Samuel Gibson, Sr., has strongly condemned the waves of threats that former Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) members have made to Liberia’s peace, security, and stability. The most recent of these threats came from former President George Manneh Weah, who promised on July 31, 2024, in an address that the CDC will do all within its power to stop the UP-led administration from weakening the rule of law and jeopardizing the peace in Liberia.
The former UP USA-Chapter Chairman made these accusations while speaking on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from the United States of America. He claimed that former President Weah and CDCians were responsible for a series of coordinated actions that endangered the nation’s peace and security by demonizing the government, encouraging acts of civil disobedience, stirring up protests meant to create instability, and engaging in other disruptive activities meant to divert attention away from the government’s development agenda.
He claimed that since the previous President was defeated in the recently concluded democratic election in 2023, members of the CDC have sworn to be disruptive opponents. As a result, they have launched a campaign to terrorize the nation by spreading false information that Liberia is an unstable, ungovernable country that is unsuitable for investment.
“I am sending out a clarion call to the people of Liberia, the sub-region, and the world at large, to take a keen look at the sinister and satanic machinations of the past regime styling itself as a grassroots political party with the view of stopping it from wrecking further damage on the socio-economic and political landscape of the country.”
Gibson, however, urged Liberians to concentrate on escaping the CDC and abandoning them during their six years of misrule, suffering, and disastrous resource looting by aiding President Boakai and his administration in the rescue effort.
“Unfortunately, former President Weah is trying to avoid what he knows is coming for him and his fellow predators by opposing a constitutionally legitimate government action to clean up the corrupt system. On a more serious note, the course of events and the opposition’s lack of dedication to and support for the battle against corruption in Liberia are alarming diasporan Liberians. They express specific disapproval of President Weah’s recent remarks to the Liberian people, which called on his supporters to organize an uprising and disrupt the calm.”
According to the former UP USA-Chapter, now is the moment for Liberians to diffuse and defuse tensions in the nation via positive interactions and concerted efforts by the opposition and the government to enhance the quality of life for all Liberians.
Gibson, however, called the former President’s accusations of a witch hunt unfounded and stated that UP-USA fully supports President Boakai in his efforts to clean up the “MESS” Weah administration caused in Liberia, if such efforts constitute a witch hunt.
He disclosed that the UP USA-Chapter believes the former President is aware that they are being pursued for a justifiable purpose.
“I hereby declare my full support for the implementation of the ARREST Agenda in my capacity as the former President of Unity Party USA.”
