It was serious tension on Monday morning amongst residents of the Gaye Town community and students of the Gaye Town Elementary and Junior high school disrupting normal learning activities at the Institution.

Residents of the Gaye Town community were seen on Monday, May 30, 2022, morning maiming sand on the campus of the Gaye Town Elementary and Junior high school something that students of the Institution strongly resisted resulting in violence.

At the violence seen, students of the institution demanded that the sand be placed back to where the community dwellers took it.

This created tension that lasted for several hours between the community dwellers and students of the institution. According to the students, the community dwellers are damaging the Institution; they cannot sit and watch the only public Junior high school in the District be destroyed.

On the other hand, the community dwellers were saying that the sand was brought by contractors of the Ministry of Public Works who are constructing the Gaye Town Road.

When Reported231 contacted the head of the contractors regarding the situation, a  Ghanaian national; who refused to be identified said he did not authorize any community dwellers to take sand from the site.

Speaking to Reports 231,  a teacher at the Institution; James Zordyu said, due to the activities taking sand mining at the Institution premises, a portion of the basketball court has collapsed and the Administrative building is under serious threat due to the same mining situation by community dwellers.

He lamented that some residents of the community are in the consistent habit of mining sand at the institution sports pitch at night and some of those people are involved in the illegal mining activities; children are attending the same school something he described as evil.

Mr. Zordyu mentioned that whenever the Institution is engaged in extra curriculum activities on campus some criminals normally go on campus and threaten students with harmful substances and made away with phones and other valuable items due to the venerability of the institution.

He expressed that the recreation center for students at the institution has been destroyed by residents of the community.

He at the same time called on the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) superintendent Isaac Saye-Lakpoh Zarwolo to construct a fence around the institution.

The fence when constructed will protect the facilities and students of the institution he narrated. The Gaye Town Elementary and Junior high school is the only public Junior high school in District #10 Montserrado County and it has contributed immensely to the human capacity building in the country it was established  June 16, 1970.
