    GOL defeats one UN System in all three sports competitions

    The Invisible Sports Park in the Airfield Community was on Saturday, June 25, was a center of attraction when the Government of Liberia engaged the One UN System in the best of three sports disciplines.

    The disciplines are the country’s traditional sports, kickball, basketball, and football.

    In the kickball match, the government of Liberia got a narrowed 2-1 home runs victory over one UN System. In basketball, President George Weah was at his usual best during sporting matches as GOL whipped one UN System by 106-64 points. In football, the president scored twice as GOL hammered the UN System 10-0.

    President Weah opened the scoring in the 17 minutes with a free-kick from the edge of the 18-yard box and provided several assists couple with two penalties for Kelvin Sebwe and Defense Minister Daniel Zianka to covet to make it 3-0 with a few minutes in the 1st half remaining.

    Liberia Maritime Authority Boss Lehn Eugene Nagbe after missing couple of chances in the opening minutes got a goal in the 45th minute to make it 4-0.

    The 2nd half of the match was a one-sided game due to the tiredness of one UN System.

    Presidential Aide, Sekou Kalasco came from the bench to register his name on the score sheet as well as president Weah’s son, George Weah Jr scored twice while former national team player, Oliver Makor also scored twice.

    President Weah who opened the scoring in the 17 minutes of the match with a free-kick closed it as he scored the final goal with a header to end the match 10-0.

    The exhibition matches were part of creating awareness for the At-Risk Youth fund drive that is scheduled for June 30, 2022, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex.

    An exhibition match was also organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for At-Risk Zimbabwe boys and At-Risk Peace Island boys.

    Youth and Sports Minister D. Zeogar Wilson, in conversation with journalists minutes following the climax of the activities, said the game demonstrates a strong relationship between the government and its partners.

    The Youth and Sports Minister also used the occasion to call on all Liberians, stakeholders, and partners to support the government in this endeavor to save the country.

    “The At-Risk Youth fund drive which is expected to raise over 13 million United States Dollars is intended to find a lasting sustainable solution to problems posed by At-Risk Youth (Zogos),” Minister D. Zeogar Wilson said.
