Monrovia, Liberia – The much-discussed US$10 million building project in Foya, Lofa County, has been addressed by the Liberian government for the first time. According to earlier rumors, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai was supposed to use the property as a presidential home.
The government has stated that the building will function as the Mano River Union Presidential Center for Regional Peace and Development rather than the President’s personal residence.
The goal of this regional endeavor, according to Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah at a press event on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, is to advance peace in the Mano River region, which comprises Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, and the Ivory Coast.

Piah claims that the initiative, which is estimated to be worth $6.1 million, is a strategic investment in regional peace and security. The three nations contribute to this budget, and international partners provide assistance.
Piah denied earlier accusations made by the opposition that President Boakai was constructing a lavish private residence. He pointed out that Lofa County was picked because of its vital role in promoting harmony between nearby nations.
According to the Information Minister, the government plans to use its special position to promote increased international collaboration and efforts to promote peace. In advance of the project’s official debut in 2026, he declared that President Boakai would visit the site this Christmas.
