The Liberian government has formally launched six more passport centers and Initiative places across the world where Liberians are residing but lack access to the access to biometric data for passport applications.
Foreign Affairs Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah said the initiative aims to provide Liberians in the diaspora with affordable and convenient access to passport during the launching ceremony on Thursday, January 19,2023, at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism MICAT regular press briefing in Monrovia.
According to Minister Kemayah, the opening of the passport application centers is being carried out in accordance with a contract with the passport contractor “Buck Press and the VFS Global,” a company that specializes in outsourcing and technological services. Foreign Minister Maxwell Kemayah claims that the six extra passport application facilities, which are located in Chicago, South Africa, Kenya, India, and Australia, will make it easier for Liberians living abroad to obtain passports.
He notes that many Liberians living abroad are in possession of outdated or expired passports and must obtain legalization for their residency from their host nation. Amb. Kemayah asserted that without the passport application center, obtaining their national identity documents to be able to regularize their statuses in their host country would have been challenging and nearly impossible. Due to a recent law granting Liberians dual citizenship, more Liberians from all over the world are requesting Liberian passports for a variety of personal reasons.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister revealed that the institution will in February of this year launch additional Passport Application Centers around the world. Minister Kemayah, at the same time caution Liberian to trust and have confidence in the process.
