GoL Score zero on “No-Go-zone” Restriction for Motorcyclists and Tricyclists

Monrovia, Liberia – Motorcyclists and tricyclists will continue to use Monrovia’s main streets in compliance with the new rules, as LNP retreats from its “No-Go-zone” restriction.

According to the Liberia National Police, motorcycle riders operating in “No-Go-zone” zones will have to carefully abide by safety standards, which include wearing helmets, bright vests, and proper gear starting on May 15, 2024.

In support of Monrovia motorcycle riders, Vice-President Jeremiah Koung intervened, which resulted in the most recent decision being made by the Liberian National Police.

According to Police Inspector General Col. Gregory Coleman, Vice President Jeremiah Koung, the LNP, and other prominent persons had some high-level talks about the safety of motorcycle and tricycle riders in the country on Thursday May 9, 2024.

He clarified that the “No-Go-Zone” prohibition on motorcycles and tricycles is a result of a municipal legislation and is meant to ensure public safety.

In addition, the LNP has implemented measures such as Ministry of Transportation insurance, and passenger helmet use in relation to the “No-Go Zone” limitation.

The police IG declared that the three-month extension of the new measures exercised in addition to the “No-Go-Zone” limitation would make it easier for Monrovia’s motorcycle and tricycle riders to adhere to the restriction.
