GoL Suffers $100M Cocaine Case Loss

Monrovia, Liberia – The four defendants in the US $100 million cocaine case have received a unanimous not guilty judgment. The Liberian government charged four men in September 2022 in relation to the allegedly found container of cocaine worth $100 million that belonged to TRH Trading Corporation.

Those charged with criminal conspiracy, money laundering, unlawful possession of prohibited substances, and unlicensed importation of controlled substances were Makki Admeh Issam, Adulai Djibri Djalo, Oliver Zayzay, and Malam Conte.

After hearing arguments from both the defense attorneys and the state’s prosecutors on Thursday, May 18, 2023, the jury’s twelve members reached their verdict. The jury was sequestered for the duration of the trial, which lasted 72 days.

While the defense side brought one general witness and six subpoenaed witnesses to testify on their behalf, the state produced seven general witnesses and three rebuttal witnesses. The much-discussed 100 million cocaine case has garnered both domestic and international public interest.

The loss of this massive shipment of drugs, which has been widely reported, appears to represent a setback for the Liberian government’s efforts to combat drug use.

The government of Liberia has been ordered to return the $210,000.00 that was taken from the defendants, effective immediately, according to criminal court judge ‘C’ Blamo Dixon.

In contrast, the defendant’s rights have finally been upheld and they have been identified as “green men.”
