Says the Company Violates Limitation Stipulated Permit by Trucking Iron-ore Day and Night Contrary to Restriction.
Monrovia, Liberia – Western Cluster Limited’s Road User Permit has been immediately suspended by the Ministry of Public Works due to alleged “Violation of the Terms of the Permit.”
With the Road User Permit, Western Cluster was permitted to transport iron ore commercially via the Bomi-Hills to Freeport of Monrovia road corridor.
Western Cluster repeatedly violated Section II (D)(E) of the Permit by using trucks that were longer than the allowed 34 feet in length, 8.5 feet in weight, and carrying an axel load of approximately 40 tons far beyond the allowed 30 tons according to a release issued by the Ministry of Public Works on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
According to the press release, the Ministry has also seen and recorded the company transporting iron ore day and night, in violation of the permit’s restriction, which only allows for the transportation of iron ore between hours 7:00 PM (19:00 GMT) to 6:00 AM (6:00 GMT).
In addition, the Ministry of Public Works levied penalties against Western Cluster for failing to comply with Section III (A) of the Permit, which mandates that the company to construct and install weigh bridges at Klay Junction and the site of departure.
Furthermore, the Ministry clearly isolated the Western Cluster due to its conspicuous inability to maintain and repair the mentioned road corridor, which undermined flexibility and presented difficulties for other users of the road.
In their press release, Public Works threatened to revoke Western Cluster’s road user permission if the company did not correct these above-mentioned infractions within 60 days.
