The Health Ministry has begun vigorous treatment of detainees in the wake of a sickness epidemic at the Monrovia Central Prison. The John F. Kennedy Medical Center and other Liberian health professionals are presently providing free medical care at the Monrovia Central Prison, according to the ministry of health.
Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah said the treatment is the result of increased reports of skin disease outbreaks at the prison facility. She said the treatment which will last for a long period of time is aimed at mitigating the health issues at prison facilities.
It can be recorded that late last year the head of the prison compound complained of the increase of inmates at the prison facility. Col. Lake at the end of the year refused new inmates at the facility and called on the national government to extend the facility. It is reported that salt beach as it is commonly known is to host a little over 5oo inmates but now hosts about 1,500 inmates causing crowdedness at the prison facility.
