Monrovia, Liberia – The House of Representatives Plenary has directed a Joint Committee including Contracts & Monopoly, Investment & Concession, Labor, Mines & Energy, Natural Resources & Environment, and Judiciary to thoroughly examine all concessions in Liberia and report back to Plenary with its findings.
The decision comes after a communication from Bong County Electoral District #6 Representative, Hon. Moima Briggs-Mensah, which was given at the Thursday, February 27, 2025, session, according to a release from the Press Bureau.
Hon. Briggs-Mensah demanded in her communication that current concession agreements be thoroughly examined, with a focus on assessing how well they work and if they adhere to the guidelines established by the Liberian government.
She emphasized that lawmakers must consider the real advantages of these agreements and weigh the interests of the country against those of investors.
The Law maker asserted that this evaluation is essential to guaranteeing that concession agreements that support Liberia’s long-term development objectives and enhance the country’s population’s economic, social, and environmental well-being.
In addition, Hon. Briggs-Mensah cautioned that neglecting to carry out such an evaluation may jeopardize national development initiatives and make it more difficult for Liberia to fully reap the rewards of these accords.
To make sure concession agreements benefit the Liberian people, the House of Representatives reported that itย is still dedicated to advancing accountability, openness, and economic sustainability.
