Monrovia, Liberia – Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman, has approved the creation of a secretariat to handle gender concerns in the security industry. The Women Legislative Caucus, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, UN Women, and the Liberia National Police are represented in the secretariat.
The LNP Headquarters hosted a one-day acquaintance meeting with the UN Women delegation, which was led by Madame Comfort Lambtey, UN Women head in Liberia.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Madam Lambtey congratulated the recently appointed Inspector General of Police and pledged to assist in improving gender issues in the nation, including raising awareness of drug laws, budgetary appropriations and gender equality, street sales by minors, prostitution, and safe homes for children, among other.
The Inspector General of Police, on his part, expressed gratitude to the UN delegates for the meeting and pledged to collaborate with UN Women to advance gender issues.
The Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Mrs. Gbemie Horace-Kollie, was also participated in the meeting. She stated that gender issues and children’s welfare represent a significant challenge in the society and that her Ministry is prepared to collaborate with UN Women and the Liberia National Police on the matter.
Representative Moima Briggs-Mensah, a member of the House of Representatives’ committee on gender, stated her support for the Liberia National Police (LNP) in addressing gender issues in the Republic and encouraged women to participate at all levels of the organization. She promised to support the Police in their attempts to secure the funding required to address gender-related concerns.
