Liberia, China Break Ground For Diagnostic Lab

Monrovia, Liberia – The People’s Republic of China and the Liberian government have begun work of a National Clinical Diagnostic and Treatment Laboratory at the 14 Military Hospital in lower Margibi County, next to the EBK Military Barracks.

Speaking at the National Clinical Diagnostic and Treatment Laboratory’s groundbreaking ceremony in lower Margibi County on Friday, December 20, 2024, Boakai characterized the project as a cutting-edge facility that will bridge a gap for all Liberians and a center that will act as a beacon of hope and advancement for the populace.

This remarkable initiative, which is being carried out by China Aid Liberia under the sponsorship of the Chinese government, is a testament to the depth and strength of the two countries’ friendship. It demonstrates the common dedication to enhancing the health and welfare of Liberian citizens.

Amb. Boakai asserted that the laboratory’s development is about creating a future in which all Liberians have access to first-rate medical treatment, not just another physical facility.

According to the Liberian leader, the facility will improve the already underdeveloped diagnosis and treatment capacities, empowering residents to respond to medical crises, address public health issues more forcefully, and better population health results overall.

“It is a well-known truth that military jobs require a strong, muscular, healthy, and energetic body. This was taken into account when designing this center. It should be noted that this laboratory will be a vital resource for anybody in need in addition to serving our military personnel.”

The groundbreaking, according to President Boakai, is more than simply a celebration; it is a pledge to the people of Liberia that their health and well-being would be the top priority for his administration.

According to him, the facility will serve as an unbreakable link in the healthcare system’s framework, offering state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services that will save lives and enhance the lives of countless people.

The President expressed his sincere gratitude to the People’s Republic of China’s government and citizens for their steadfast support and dedication to Liberia’s progress.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the China-Aid Project of the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory, according to Chinese Ambassador H.E. YIN Chengwu, is a symbol of the two nations’ common vision, abiding friendship, and productive collaboration.

According to Ambassador Chengwu, the initiative also shows China’s strong commitment to carrying out the decisions made during the 2024 Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit between Presidents Xi Jinping and Boakai.

“It is the first groundbreaking facility of China-Aid projects after the meeting, showcasing the elevation of our bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership announced by our two heads of state,” he said, adding that the project represents the vision set forth during the Summit and serves as a symbol of shared commitment to mutual development and cooperation.

“Let us remember that every brick laid here, piece of equipment set here, effort made here, and dream realized here will be generalized into an action to accelerate the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development of Liberia, and a monument of a community with a shared future for China and Liberia,” the Chinese Ambassador explained as they began construction of the facility.

Geraldine Janet George, Liberia’s defense minister, said the project represents the country’s relentless commitment to bettering the wellness and health of all Liberians and mark a major turning point in infrastructures and health services.

The collaboration between China and Liberia has been crucial in advancing the development agenda, according to Minister George.

“China has played an instrumental part in Liberia’s progress, offering assistance in a number of areas and revealing that the Ministry of Defense has profited from the partnership between Liberia and China by receiving donations, among other things.”
