Monrovia, Liberia – Suspect Quita Dolo Kosso has been officially charged by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and committed to the RIA Magisterial Court after being arrested for trafficking drugs into Liberia.
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) reports that Quita Dolo Kosso, 39, was arrested at Roberts International Airport on July 12 after boarded Kenya Airways Flight #KQ887. 3.355 kilograms of cocaine were allegedly concealed in her suitcase, according to the police. The pills are believed to be worth $181,008 USD on the market.
In accordance with Liberia’s amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Kosso was charged on July 21 and sent to the RIA Magisterial Court. According to Liberian law, there is no bail for the following charges: trafficking and importation (Section 14.83), possession (Section 14.89), sales and distribution (Section 14.85), and criminal conspiracy (Section 10.2).
In response to a request by her legal team, which was led by Cllr. Lafayette Gould and Julius R. Addy, Kosso was treated at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center after becoming sick while in detention, according to the LDEA. The agency has received her medical documents.
The arrest of Kosso joins an increasing number of high-profile interdictions as Liberia steps up its efforts to combat the smuggling of drugs over international borders. As the LDEA continues its campaign against drug syndicates that take advantage of Liberian ports of entry, authorities have acknowledged that Kosso’s case is a part of larger investigations that also involve suspected drug smuggler Tony Obi.
In a statement, the LDEA urged the public to let the legal system handle the case in an unbiased manner, saying, “The LDEA remains unyielding in its mission to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks.”
