Monrovia, Liberia – With a focus on enhancing cooperation to expedite domestic resource mobilization and increase revenue development, Irish Ambassador to Liberia Gérard Considine had a meeting with top officials and Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

Ireland’s larger assistance for governance and institutional capacity building includes a commitment to promoting transparent, equitable, and effective tax administration in Liberia, which was emphasized in the discussions by both sides. Real estate tax collection increase, digitization of tax systems, and capacity building for LRA employees were the main topics of discussion.

On October 24, 2024, Ambassador Considine met at the LRA headquarters and reiterated Ireland’s commitment to aiding Liberia’s attempts to generate money through physical decentralization and domestic resource mobilization. He highlighted the value of “people-to-people” cooperation in advancing capacity-building programs and praised Commissioner General Jallah and his staff for their unwavering efforts to guarantee legal revenue collection in the face of the tax authority’s difficulties.

Additionally, Ambassador Considine emphasized Ireland’s continued backing of the LRA’s real estate tax extension project in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, which is being carried out by UNDP Liberia. Over 10,000 properties have been successfully located and registered since the initiative’s inception in 2023, greatly increasing the county’s capacity to collect taxes.

Furthermore, as part of Ireland’s embassy mission plan, the Ambassador reaffirmed Ireland’s dedication to more comprehensive programs in Liberia, such as accountability, gender equality, food security, nutrition, and climate action.

Commissioner General Jallah conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Irish government and people for their steadfast support of the LRA. He gave special recognition to Ireland’s scholarship program, which has given LRA employees access to higher education and enhanced the authority’s operations.

CG Jallah underlined the Authority’s focus on reaching the billion-dollar revenue objective while restating the LRA’s commitment to conquering obstacles and fostering income development. In order to improve tax collection operations, he emphasized the significance of sustained assistance in areas like real estate identification, technical improvement, the creation of a national cadastral system, and improving Liberia’s addressing system.

In order to further improve the exchange of talents and expertise between the two nations, Commissioner General Jallah also urged the Irish Embassy to look into possibilities for experience-sharing with Ireland’s tax administration.

The visit by Ambassador Considine follows the previous trips to Liberia by the International Monetary Fund’s Country Representative and the EU Delegation.
