As UP Chairman Calls for the sacking of non-performance of Gov’t Officials.
Monrovia, Liberia – Rev. J. Luther Tarpeh, the chairperson of the ruling Unity Party, has urged President Joseph N. Boakai to fire government employees who are not meeting the standards of the Liberian people since it is no more business as usual.
Rev. Tarpeh told reporters at the Unity Party Headquarters in Monrovia on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, that Liberians are fed up with hearing just political pledges and are eager for more action. The Unity Party chairman cautioned government representatives to go above and beyond what is expected of them and make sure the ARREST agenda has an impact on the lives of regular Liberians.
“Mr. President, everyone who is not working hard enough has to be let go and replaced right away. Business as usual is no longer the case. Liberians want more than just political promises; they want action. Therefore, let this serve as an urgent call to all of our government representatives that they need to go far beyond make sure the ARREST agenda has an impact on the lives of regular people,” he said.
Rev. Tarpeh, however, criticized government officials who think they are not government employees. Additionally, he threatened to take significant political action against officials who do not perform well but cause attacked on the party that hired them.
According to Chairman Tarpeh, the Unity Party did not win the election for the benefit of a certain group, adding that the people who put in a lot of effort to install President Boakai are now without food.
“And to those of you who boldly and naively declare, “I am not here to discuss Unity Party business.” Take a look at yourself! Will you even be regarded as a minister if these common folks hadn’t put in so much effort? We will take strong political action against you if you disparage the party that hired you. Do you believe that we won this election for your own, your loved ones’, and your friends’ amusement, while the primary foot soldiers who put in a lot of effort to install President Boakai are not even in possession of food to eat?”
He added that the report has implicated both the suspended commissioners and Acting Chair Abdullah Kamara in the mismanagement of funds allocated for the Digital Transformation Program.
“To guarantee impartiality and consistency, we urge you, Mr. President, to examine this audit report and all individuals involved in different audits to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for additional inquiry and potential prosecution,” the UP Chairman explained.
