Kwagrue Wins District 5 By-election in Nimba County.

Sanniquillie, Nimba — The National Elections Commission has announced Kortor Sehwongbay Kwagrue as winner of the Representative By-election held in District #5 Nimba County.

Speaking on Wednesday at the NEC Office in Sanniquillie, the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission Davidetta Brown Lansanah commended participants, including political parties, voters, election staff, security and the media for a smooth conduct of the election.


According to Madam Lansanah, the election was conducted under a calm atmosphere without records of violation or disruption of voters.


“The NEC is pleased to report that, generally, the District 5 Representative by-election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere,” Lansanah said, noting that voting was carried out in full compliance with electoral laws and procedures,” she informed the public.


Kwaqrue from the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction obtained a vote of 4,795 votes consisting of 31.39% of the total while his opponent Bories B. Barlea an Independent candidate obtained a vote of 3,938 votes representing 26.78%.

NEC Boss Lansanah emphasized the need for women involvement into politics highlighting the successful conduct of the election to voter education efforts, logistical preparation, and coordination among security agencies and the media.
