As Single Mother Raise Concern Following Death Threat, Attack Attempts
Monrovia, Liberia – An elderly woman identified as Fatumata Dulles has risen concerned and alarmed about the mysterious disappearance of her son, and land advocate, Morris Siryon following death threat against his life due to a land dispute between him and his uncles in the Brewerville, Red Hill Filed Community.
Speaking in an tearful interview with this paper recently, Madam Dulles reflected that August 27, 2022, her son Siryon and his uncles had some disagreement over a family land in the Red Hill Filed Community, when they decided to exclude her family ownership to the land on grounds that she is a female, she can’t own land or property.
According to her, the properties and land are property left behind by their family, but their Islamic traditional practice instructs that all properties, including land be awarded to men because they are usually left in the home as head to maintain legacy and inheritance.
She further stated that she had have conversation with her brothers on several occasions to provide her own portion of the land and properties since they are struggling, but her brothers refused, something she said angered her son and he decided to advocate and stand in the gape for the family.
“My son and three of his uncles got into a major land dispute on August 27, 2022. Our family’s land in Brewerville, Red Hill Filed Community, has been denied to us. Because of my son’s constant advocacy, which labels their actions against us as bad and wicked. We discussed the issue at a family meeting one day. One of his uncles pulled an axe from the tree and attempted to strike my son behind the neck during the meeting. Unfortunately, his uncle falls to the ground and when rushed to the hospital, the doctor confirmed and announced his death due to high blood pressure. However, the two other uncles accused him of killing their brother and threatened to kill my son also. She narrated. ”
She added that her son’s uncles had been pursuing his life ever since, and that on one occasion, they had attacked her son at night with a few criminals, breaking his leg and injuring his wrist.
“They assaulted my son, breaking both his wrist and leg. No one in the neighborhood rescued my son when he yelled for assistance. He was later saved by someone who saw him and stopped them from killing him. In order to receive treatment, my son was brought to the hospital. My son’s leg was operated on,” she said.
After that, he had surgery on his leg in the hospital. One of his uncles approached him while he was in the hospital bed and allegedly threatened to kill him if he left. Accordingly, the land advocate mother disclosed that her son life was still being hunted by his uncles while in the hospital, as they maintained killing him whenever he leaves the hospital.
She noted that because of the ongoing threats and attempts to kill him, her son moved to Bakedu in August 2022 and stayed there until October 2022. She sad, some friends and a few others informed her that he left the country after his uncles attempted to kill him again.
