Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Basketball Association has embarked on recruiting interested females to form part of the Table Officiating team. The move is meant to provide opportunity to individuals who are interested in working with the LBA in different capacities.
The Liberian Basketball Association seeks to enhance the number of women in leadership roles, coaching, table officials, and refereeing, among other roles. The first two recipients of the LBA recruitment process are Princess D. Pennue and Fatu N. Kromah.
The passionate young women were also part of the under 18 teams that represented Liberia in the 2024 Afro basketball Zone 3 under 18 male and female Championship in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. That tournament was Liberia’s first international competition since 2007.
On Monday, August 12, 2024, in the SKD Gymnasium in Paynesville City, on the first day of the Liberia Basketball Association 3rd division championship Phase-2, they were observed carrying out their first assignments.
Calvin Diggs, the secretary general of the LBA, described their willingness as a wake-up call for other young women. Mr. Diggs asserted that the Liberia Basketball Association will bring vibrancy to all areas under this leadership.
“Rebranding basketball is our only goal in taking over. We have developed a comprehensive strategy to steer the sport in the right path. There are so many different initiatives along the way moving forward, we believed many of you will benefit one way and the others.”
