The Liberia Council of Churches says the sanctioning of government officials by the international community is a wakeup called for Liberia’s to address her homework by determining between the establishment of the war and Economic crimes court and the government proposes Transitional Justice Commission to end impunity.
Speaking recently in Monrovia, the LCC through its President Bishop Kortu Brown said, it is time that Liberia as a country and people address the hard question so as to ensure what happened during the civil war is prevented from happening.
“We do not rejoice when anyone Liberian is sanctioned by the international community but the reality is that it is for the greater good of the country. What will keep this country stable is our concern. What can we do to address these war crimes is what we have to deal with and those sanctioning needs to be taken seriously against our public officials because it is a wakeup call”, Bishop Kortu Brown explained.
According to him, the quest of some Liberians desiring the establishment of war and economic crimes court and government propose Transitional Justice Commission are issues that should be addressed this year 2022 for the country to resolve where it wants to go in addressing home activities.
The Water in the Desert Senior Pastor explained, if Liberia does not address its unresolved question, foreign partners and the international community will not really work with Liberia because they have shown to Liberia their willingness to support to help establish the world and economic crime court.
According to the Preacher Man going forward, it is important that Liberians know what they want and finds solutions to all those last year discussions of the government propose Transitional Justice Commission and the establishment of the war and economic crimes court that most Liberians see as accounting for the past.
“All those things are about doing our homework because Liberia cannot run away from her past, therefore we need to make a decision as to where we want to go from here as a country and people”.
The LCC Head noted that the two public officials who were sanctioned by the US for crime against humanity and corruption, something he says need to be addressed seriously because these are the source of war. Bishop Brown named lack of adequate distribution of natural resources, corruption amongst others are things that should be addressed in order to prevent the past, adding that since the war ended, Liberia has not been able to take the necessary action to end the many argument and quest to end impunity.
“The issues of War and economic crimes court, how do we call into question the actors of the civil war so as serve as precedent against us going back to civil war. We have to make sure we do our homework to save the future as a country. What happened in our country worries international law, we will make sure that in the line of the law, justice is served to end our dark days”.Bishop Brown urged.
The Pentecostal Bishop further indicated that due to the country’s inability to address the wrong and answer the many questions, we are walking in the day as if it is night, Liberia has to do what it is running away from.
“We need the political will to address corruption, wage, abuse, and war crimes because these are serious concerns. Those that sanction our people are suggesting that if we are not able to sanction our own people, they will sanction them for us” Bishop Kortu Brown narrated.
The preacher noted that corruption is undermining our society but we are finding it difficult to execute justice because we are afraid to do our homework by choosing what we all want as a people.
