Monrovia, Liberia – Mohammed Sheriff, the Acting Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), has issued a stern warning against the rising prevalence of power theft in the nation, stressing that anyone found stealing electricity will face harsh legal repercussions.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, Mr. Sheriff discussed the LEC’s goals to advance the energy industry across the country on the OK Morning Rush show. He emphasized that years of civil strife have caused Liberia to suffer with access to energy for a long time, and that it is time to implement the government’s Arrest Agenda.
The MD pointed out that even while hydropower produces the majority of the nation’s electricity, many places are still without service and depend on expensive, ineffective diesel generators. He went on to say that continuous efforts are being made to increase access to power and lessen reliance on these substitutes.
“Only if consumers continue to fund their electricity meters and refrain from power theft, load shedding will be eliminated,” the sheriff said.
Additionally, he underlined the significance of dependable energy for the advancement of the country, stressing its vital role in healthcare, education, economic expansion, and general quality of life.
“Only if cooperation with the government, foreign partners, and other private businesses is prioritized will Liberia be able to address its electrical difficulties. As an entity, we are dedicated to giving a greater number of Liberians reliable power,” he said.
