Monrovia, Liberia – Lernnart Dodoo, the editor of FrontPage Africa, has urged the Peter Quaqua Mediation Team to convince Team Julius Kanubah, the party that lost the contentious PUL 2022 elections, to dismiss their lawsuit from the court.
Mr. Dodoo, who is a member of the Press Union of Liberia, wrote an open letter to the Peter Quaqua Mediation Team requesting that the team use its influence to convince Team Kanubah to drop the lawsuit and resume mediation proceedings with the goal of holding fresh, transparent elections for the Union.
The FPA Editor believes that the only way the union members can heal the divides that have beset the organization and regain its credibility is through sincere communication, cooperation, and compromise.
He also argued in the letter dated Sunday, March 31, 2024, for the team’s sense of obligation and dedication to the values of solidarity and journalistic integrity.
The PUL member acknowledged Team Kanubah’s difficulties and their worries about the way the elections were being conducted.
He did, however, stress how depressing it is to learn that, in spite of multiple attempts by the PUL leadership to hold talks and address these issues, Team Julius chose to take legal action, resulting in a protracted impasse that has severely impacted the Union’s integrity and functionality.
Mr. Dodoo emphasized that the mediation team’s failure to recognize the sacrifice made by the PUL President who resigned is equally disheartening.
Mr. Dodoo is among the numerous PUL members who have consistently advocated for a rational resolution to this issue. The Executive Mansion Press Crop Chairman, along with other affiliated organizations including the Liberian Reporters Association, Legislative Reporters Association, Sports Writers Association, Judicial Reporters Association, and others, expressed their apprehension and demanded a resolution to the issue.
