Monrovia, Liberia – With support from the World Bank, the Liberia electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) organized a two-day validation conference to finish the Inspection Manual for the country’s electricity industry.
The important document included checklists for inspection-related duties, ensured service provider compliance, and acted as a reference for inspection processes.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), the Rural Renewable Energy Agency (RREA), licensed operators Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Jungle Energy Power (JEP), ENERGICITY, LIBENERGY, T Totota Electric Cooperative (TEC), and academic institutions participated in the process with about 34 representatives (both in person and virtually).
The importance of the Inspection Manual as a crucial foundation for guaranteeing responsibility within the industry and a step essential for enhancing the caliber and effectiveness of Liberia’s electrical services was underlined by Claude J. Katta, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners (BoC) LERC.
“The handbook will be a crucial instrument to ensure that licensees and permit holders follow the highest technical standards throughout all phases of their operations, from planning and design to construction, installation, and continuous operation,” he informed participants.
“We greatly appreciate the time and effort you have devoted to attending this validation meeting of the Inspection Manual. This insight reflects our collective commitment to transparency and collaboration. These proactive approaches ensure that the Commission’s regulations are effective, efficient, and practical”, Chairman Katta averred.
He stressed that the implementation of the handbook will be crucial in determining the resilience and dependability of the electrical sector and asked participants to remain involved throughout the process.
Varney Garpue, an Infrastructure Civil Engineer at the Rural Renewable Energy Agency, and Kelvin Grubaye, Assistant Director for Energy Efficiency and Environment at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, both stated during the meeting that their organizations are committed to collaborating with LERC in the execution of the Inspection Manual and related regulations.
By confirming that the current systems are reliable and responsible, the validation conference is a major step in improving Liberia’s electrical industry and opening the door to better services and increased sustainability.
