Monrovia, Liberia – The People’s Republic of China and the Government of Liberia formally signed a bilateral technical cooperation agreement on Friday, March 28, 2025. By implementing initiatives that both governments have agreed upon, the agreement seeks to improve mutual cooperation in a number of areas, with an emphasis on advancing Liberia’s peace, stability, prosperity, and development.

At the signing ceremony, the People’s Republic of China’s ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Yin Chengwu, conveyed his pleasure with the agreement and emphasized its significance in strengthening the two countries’ relationship.

The agreement, he said, is intended to support initiatives that will be carried out after amicable negotiations, strengthening the common objective of attaining sustainable development and fostering a successful future for Liberia.

The agreement, according to Ambassador Yin, is in line with the values of equality, respect for one another, and win-win collaboration that are at the heart of the recent pledges made at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit and supported by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Additionally, he emphasized how well it aligns with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which is supported by presidentJoseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., of Liberia. This accord serves the broad interests of both governments and their citizens, Ambassador Yin said.

H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who signed the deal on behalf of the government, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Liberian people and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.

She stressed that the deal will greatly aid Liberia’s economic growth and further solidify the country’s current relations with China. The agreement’s signing was both necessary and advantageous, according to Foreign Minister Nyanti, who also reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the two countries’ collaboration.

“This agreement will be properly implemented for the benefit of Liberia’s government and citizens. I want to thank the Chinese government and people on behalf of President Boakai and the Liberian people. We have no doubt that this collaboration will result in significant improvements in the progress of our nation,” said Foreign Minister Nyanti.

In addition, Foreign Minister Nyanti reaffirmed Liberia’s support for the One China policy and promised China that the two countries will continue to work together. She pledged to continue enhancing relations while serving as foreign minister and commended the two countries’ partnership, which has already produced remarkable benefits.

“We are really grateful for the several projects that the Chinese government has funded in Liberia, this signing ceremony today represents an important turning point in our bilateral partnership. We anticipate working together going ahead to accomplish our common objectives of growth and prosperity,” Foreign Minister Nyanti said.

With the signing of the technical bilateral cooperation agreement, Liberia and China have reaffirmed their commitment to developing closer ties and anticipate more cooperation in a number of areas in the years to come.
