Monrovia, Liberia – In a new chapter in the developing partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, and her Moroccan counterpart, H.E. Nasser Bourita, signed a number of bilateral agreements on Friday, January 17, 2025.

The signing event, which also included the release of a Joint Communiqué, emphasized the two countries’ shared dedication to promoting cooperation and development.

As stated by a Foreign Ministry Address from Morocco, Foreign Minister Nyanti conveyed his sincere appreciation for His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s crucial contribution to the development of the Third Joint Commission between the two countries. This commission seeks to strengthen collaboration in key areas such as the development of human resources, agriculture and agribusiness, healthcare system enhancements, technical support, and the advancement of good governance.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s steadfast support for enhancing Morocco-Liberia ties was praised by Foreign Minister Nyanti in her speech. As a demonstration of renewed optimism and respect for one another, she cited the establishment of the Moroccan Embassy in Liberia as one of the major advancements made over the years in strengthening friendship and collaboration.

H.E. Nasser Bourita, on his part, celebrated the two nations’ shared developmental objectives and underlined the need of looking for new avenues for collaboration and economic expansion. Foreign Minister Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s dedication to creative collaborations and long-term investments that have the potential to revolutionize both countries’ economies and benefit the larger Mano River Union area.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Bourita promised Morocco’s continuous support for Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 period.

Both ministers praised the wise leadership of Liberian President H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whose common vision has strengthened bonds of traditional friendship and brotherhood. Through improved bilateral collaboration, they reiterated their commitment to advancing economic growth, sustainable development, and peace.

Following the event, a Joint Communiqué was released outlining a common vision for advancing trade and investment development between the two countries. It highlighted the goal of creating a strong economic alliance based on mechanisms for international collaboration and reciprocal advantages, including initiatives to promote cooperation between Morocco’s Tangiers Port and the Port of Monrovia.

The statement also restated Morocco and Liberia’s resolve to expand their areas of cooperation to encompass new and exciting fields. In order to strengthen their bilateral ties and promote prosperity for both parties, the parties decided to keep up their close cooperation.

This momentous occasion marks yet another turning point in Morocco and Liberia’s long-standing collaboration. It also symbolizes the two countries’ united will to create a future characterized by respect for one another, common objectives, and creative development approaches.

The signing of 15 bilateral agreements paves the way for a more promising and successful future for both countries and is evidence of the close and long-lasting ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Liberia. The two countries’ relations were further strengthened in 2024 when Morocco reopened its embassy in Monrovia.
