Monrovia, Liberia – A 100 million Renminbi (RMB) Development Cooperation Agreement has been signed by the governments of the Republic of Liberia and the People’s Republic of China, reiterating their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relationships and furthering Liberia’s national development priorities.
On Friday, January 9, 2026, the agreement was signed in Monrovia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Through the execution of mutually agreed-upon development initiatives intended to further peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development in Liberia, it seeks to deepen cooperation between the two nations.
H.E. Yin Chengwu, China’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Liberia, signed the agreement on behalf of the People’s Republic of China and emphasized its strategic significance to the developing China-Liberia friendship.

“It gives me great pleasure to attend today’s signing ceremony of the Agreement on Development Cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Liberia,” Ambassador Yin stated. “This is another important agreement between our two countries in the field of development cooperation, following the agreement we signed here last March.”
According to Ambassador Yin, the new agreement will emphasize initiatives that serve the common people, reinforce development foundations, and produce long-term value. It will also be in line with Liberia’s national development frameworks, including as President Boakai’s ARREST Agenda. He expressed optimism that the accord would boost Liberia’s development initiatives and raise the standard of living for its citizens.

H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia, expressing the sincere appreciation of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. and the Liberian people to the Chinese government and people for their ongoing cooperation and assistance.

The agreement, according to Foreign Minister Nyanti, is both timely and crucial for strengthening current relations and accelerating Liberia’s economic and social development. “Today’s signing ceremony transcends formality,” Minister Nyanti stated. “It is a powerful reaffirmation of a relationship built not merely on agreements, but on enduring principles mutual respect, sovereign equality, non-interference, and a shared resolve to pursue development, peace, and prosperity for our peoples.”
“The development cooperation agreement, which we are privileged to conclude today, provides gratuitous assistance of one hundred million RMB and stands as a compelling testament to China’s unwavering commitment to Liberia’s development aspirations,” she said.
According to Foreign Minister Nyanti, Liberia really appreciates China’s development concept, which prioritizes projects that are realistic, significant, and results-driven while putting people at the core of progress. For the sake of the Liberian people, she promised Liberia’s unwavering commitment to making sure the agreement is implemented effectively.
The importance of the expanding strategic alliance between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China was demonstrated by the attendance of high government officials, diplomats, and representatives of both governments.
