Central Monrovia, Montserrado – Firefighters early on Wednesday morning, October 25, 2023 fought to put out a fire that had taken over a portion of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning is one of the principal government agency in Liberia responsible for financial issues. A multitude of financial records, particularly those pertaining to major big projects, are available at the Ministry.
The side of the building that was affected by the fire was reportedly the Project Financial Management Unit, located on the third floor. A crucial component of the Ministry of Finance, which is in charge of ensuring the nation’s financial stability, is the PFMU in terms of foreign projects.
It is yet unknown what started the fire, and there was no casualties. Reports231 has not yet been in touch with the Ministry of Finance, Fire Service, or Liberia National Police authorities to find out what started the fire, what caused the building’s destruction, or what happened to the ministry’s records as of the publication of this report.
Thou Firefighters from the Liberia National Fire Service have professionally put the fire event to a stop, residents and bystanders are demanding an investigation as the circumstances precede November 14, 2023, which is scheduled as Liberia’s presidential runoff election. The citizens alleged that the fire outbreak was a set up to distroy evidence and records by the government. The noted that such has happened before, citing the past government.
