Capital Hill, Monrovia – The 2014 Drug Law has been amended by the Liberian Legislature, making it non-bailable for the production, importation, exportation, trafficking, and sale of banned substances. Following the release of a conference committee report by the specialized committees of the Senate and House of Representatives, the Senate plenary made its decision on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
The report, which was read aloud during the meeting on Tuesday, states that it is a first-degree felony and a grave offense to cultivate, manufacture, import, export, trade in, or sell restricted substances (drugs). As a result, bail is not permitted in such cases.
According to the report, properties used for the trade of drugs must be seized by the Republic of Liberia, and earnings from their sales must go to the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, the drug prevention and rehabilitation programs, and 50% must be added to government coffers.
The decision and pronouncement were made on Capital Hill at the capital building in Monrovia.
