As part of efforts to boost Cricket in Liberia, the Chief Organizer of Liberia Cricket Premier League, Roopesh Ram, has stressed the need for the game to be played in the various secondary schools across Liberia. According to Mr. Ram, several secondary schools have shown interest to ensure cricket is introduced in their institutions.

Roopesh Rami who is the Board Chair of Liberia Cricket Federation said, cricket is a sport that is highly admired by Indians, but his goal is to see Liberians playing it at the highest level. He told journalists on Sunday, November 21, 2021, following the kickoff of the Liberia Premier Season five Cricket Tournament under the banner, Jetty Cup which is currently ongoing at the ELWA Compound on the Robert International Airport highway, in Paynesville City.

“Our challenges, for now, are to see Liberians playing cricket and also getting a better playing pitch which will suit the sport. Most of the playing pitches in Liberia are squarely for football, which makes it difficult for us. For example, to host each league; it cost me more than five thousand United States Dollars (5000USD), Clubs also paid participation fees of two hundred fifty United States dollars (250USD) each. We have six Liberian playing in the current league for a different set of clubs, but we used to have the Liberia National Cricket Federation as a team playing in the league”, he concluded.

The league is featuring 16 clubs namely: Team JD, Team 1981, Thommanum Makkalum, Monrovia Super Kings, Royal Strikers, Orange Cricket Club, and Sethi Brothers. Others are Euro Stars, Star Cricket Club, Team Tsunami, South Beach Smashers, Monrovia Super Warriors, Global Hitters, Titans Lucky, and Tally Globe.

Remarking at the program, the sponsor of the competition, Dr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, appreciated the organizer and at the same time called for good sportsmanship amount the players and officials.

Serving as a proxy for Youth and Sports Zeogar Wilson, the Deputy Sports Director, Kesseley Kanneh encouraged the foreign nationals to educate Liberians about the game. According to him, seeing Liberian playing cricket at the highest level is his greatest concern, adding that, cricket is one of the most play sports in the World.
