Monrovia, Liberia – The Armed Forces of Liberia, on behalf of the Liberian government, have started to return their peacekeeping forces to Mali. The repatriation process is a step towards eliminating the absence of peacekeeping in Liberia, an African country.
The Liberian contingent’s departure from the UN Multi-dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) marks the end of ten years of fruitful missions, according to the Armed Forces of Liberia. The Liberia peacekeeping deployment to Mali comes to a conclusion on Thursday, December 14, according to Major Zachaeus Musgrove, AFL Director of Peacekeeping Operations.
Major Musgrove stated that Liberia’s presence in Sudan, which includes the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will be limited to military observers. The military presence of Liberia in these nations is one of its efforts to maintain international and African peace.
In addition to the United Nations and ECOWAS, Liberia is a member of numerous other international organisations that promote world peace and stability. Liberia’s fourteen-year civil war, which came to an end in 2003, is widely acknowledged to have benefited from peacekeeping operations.
