Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia and Sierra Leone have formed alliances to promote transformational projects in a number of areas, including food security, which would open doors for regional and national economic growth.
As a result of the Liberian leader’s visit to Sierra Leone, the two heads of state, Presidents Joseph N. Boakai and Julius Maada Bio, reviewed the state of political, diplomatic, economic, social, cultural, and security cooperation between their two nations as well as the Mano River Union (MRU).
In a setting of mutual trust, understanding, and fraternity, President Boakai praised President Bio’s flagship initiative “Feed Salone” and his commitment to transforming Sierra Leonean agriculture.
Boakai complimented Bio on Sierra Leone’s leadership position in the UN Security Council and the AU Committee of Ten (C10) to reform the UN Security Council, both on a continental and global scale.
During the working visit to Sierra Leone, he conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to President Maada Bio, for the courteous and kind welcome he and his people received.
President Bio also praised President Boakai for his efforts to emphasize agriculture as a key factor in reducing poverty, creating jobs, and ensuring food security.
The leader of Sierra Leone praised Liberia’s decision to submit a candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term, pointing out that Liberia is a credible voice that would offer distinctive perspectives on conflict resolution and peacebuilding and significantly support the upkeep of global peace and security.
In keeping with this, the two heads of state reaffirmed their commitment to bringing the subregion and the continent together and working together to address the region’s hunger crisis and establish the conditions needed to feed the populace and generate employment through the use of the region’s already fertile land and transformative agricultural projects.
In order to preserve regional peace and security, the two nations also reiterated their commitment to promoting a peaceful democratic transfer of power and talked about the democratic issues facing the MRU and ECOWAS.
However, the mean focus of President Boakai and Bio’s conversation were economic activity to expand commerce between Liberia and Sierra Leone, as well as cross-border collaboration to promote cultural variety and peaceful coexistence amongst border populations.
The heads of state also reaffirmed their commitment to the UN and African Union’s values, especially those related to development, peace, and security.
