Federation President Master terms it’s as historic.
Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia School of Wushu at SKD in Paynesville City hosted an ordinary congress ratifing the Liberia Taekwondo Federation’s stakeholders new constitution. Delegates raised their hands to vote for the documents’ approval at the congress, with many expressing the opinion that the text complied with the constitution of its parent body.
The body claims that a new constitution will make the federation’s operations more effective than they have ever been.
Speaking at the event, Master Junior Pewee Russian, president of the Liberia Taekwondo Federation, urged attendees to put their passion for sports above their emotions, pointing out that the long-standing Tae Kwon Do conflict has acted as a roadblock for the growth of the sport.
“If we are not accusing someone of stealing our money, it is the government’s lack of support through the youth and sports minister that is affecting us all. We harbor a great deal of animosity toward one another, and I assure you that if we don’t band together and change our mindset, we will ultimately demoralize the few decent people who are still in our lives.”
“I wonder sometimes what is going on with us. Given the minimal work we put into promoting Taekwondo, how can we grow the sport if our brains are not set up to coexist peacefully and respect one another? We cannot all be leaders at once; a country with so many rulers will never grow.”
The Liberia Taekwondo Federation President also took advantage of the occasion to thank each delegate for their cooperation and support during every demonstration.
“I couldn’t have progressed this far without your help. We should start a new chapter in Tae Kwon Do, since I am your son and president. Since we have been fighting for too long, there is no longer any respect for elders and masters. Let’s band together and help one another for the sake of our children’s children.”
“What is happening in Tae Kwon Do is not new in their federation or association,” he said, “but the martial artists must show the difference because Martial Arts makes you disciplined as they cannot allow the spirit of confusion to keep them in bandage.”
“In my roles as captain, technical director, and now president, I have heard about and observed the separation between masters and pupils as a Tae Kwon Do student. The difficulty is nothing new to me. I kindly request that we all treat one another with respect. Remember the discipline our instructors instill in us; Tae Kwon Do makes you disciplined and modest.”
I beg you, students and masters, to band together and change things. Together, we can support the teaching of martial arts, such as taekwondo, in every village and school in Liberia. “We can help our young people in the street, and this is the only sport that teaches discipline,” he explained.
Master Russian at the same time reaffirmed his commitment to officials that with the help of the masters of council, his leadership will do everything humanly possible to develop Taekwondo in Liberia, no matter what the challenges.
Speaking at the celebration, former Defense Minister J. Brownie Samukai lavished accolades on Master Junior Pewee Russian. Master Russian’s efforts as an athlete and then as an administrator over the years have impressed him with many advances at the organization, he added. He also urged other federation members to support him and ensure the sport’s continued existence.
