Release- Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet of the Republic of Liberia, received the “Order of Merit (1st Degree)” from President of the Republic of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky for his significant individual contribution to fostering interstate cooperation, supporting state sovereignty, and upholding the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Decree No. 902/2022, dated December 30, 2022, was issued by the Ukrainian President and made public on his official website in order to thank and recognize the Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs for his exemplary leadership in advancing the rule-based international order, international law, and global peace and security.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, the highest award from President Zelensky was announced in a message from the Ukrainian government to Foreign Minister Kemayah dated Saturday, December 31, 2022. Mr. Yurii Pyvovarov, the Ukrainian ambassador accredited to Liberia, wrote: “Dear Mr. Minster, “By the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky No. 902/2022 of December 30, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, Mr. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, was awarded the Order of Merit (1st Degree) for a significant personal contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation, support of State sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” I have the great pleasure to inform you of this great news.
“My warmest congratulations to you, Dear Minister, from me and all Ukrainians,’ says the message from the government of Ukraine. We anticipate seeing you in Kyiv in the first half of 2023. The year 2023 has arrived. sincere thanks to Ambassador Yurii Pyvovarov, the Ukrainian ambassador in Liberia was also recognized.
In response, Foreign Minister Kemayah dedicated the honor bestowed upon him by President Zelensky to President George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, as well as to the Liberian government, people, and family, in appreciation for their support and the opportunity to serve. The greatest accolade in this category of national recognition given to notable people for their outstanding accomplishments in the fields of politics, international affairs, government, economics, and the military is the Ukrainian Chevaliers Order of Merit (1st Degree). On September 22, 1996, Leonid Kuchma, a former president of Ukraine, instituted the “Chevaliers Order of Merit.”
