Monrovia, Liberia – After two weeks as guests of Keyara’s Gift Liberia, a delegation from California, the United States of America, has left the nation after giving scholarships to 150 students totaling more than US$200,000.
Speaking just after the delegation departed, Reverend Francis Kollie, the Country Director of Keyara’s Gift Liberia, revealed that the US team had given scholarships totaling 200,000 US dollars to 150 students across several counties in Liberia.
Reverend Kollie told reporters that the group also gave beneficiaries of the scholarships in Liberia books and book bags, sanitary pads, and apparel worth more than $15,000 US dollars.
In addition, the delegation planned a celebration to honor the students for their outstanding achievements over the previous academic year.
The American team discussed the high expense of tuition at private and religiously affiliated institutions and colleges with the education authorities at the Ministry of Education during their visit.
The party also paid a visit to Monrovia Central Prison, where they gave female prisoners sanitary pads and perfume, as well as scholarships for their offspring.
Additionally, female delegation members gave lectures to female students on the value of maintaining proper sanitation and cleanliness, particularly in the wake of a disease epidemic.
Some of the students, who attend from more than seven counties and universities, urged the US delegation to keep supporting Keyara’s Gift Liberia and thanked the team for the gifts and opportunity.
The group, which includes Kreg Ecklind, Karen Ecklind, Kayara Enklind, and Zack Newspren, is raising money for Kayara Gift Liberia, according to Reverend Kollie.
