Monrovia, Liberia – On Sunday, Prime Minister H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani of the State of Qatar met with H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Cabinet of the Republic of Liberia.
Minister Beysolow Nyanti was invited for discussions on the bilateral relations by the Prime Minister of the State of Qatar, who also acts as Foreign Minister. They discussed close ties between the two nations being strengthened. Madam Nyanti underlined the significance of forward planning like the air service agreement for Qatar Airways and noted that Liberia has never benefited from direct aid from Qatar.
She also asked that the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) visit Liberia shortly to begin helping regional initiatives. Minister Nyanti said the ARREST agenda of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai not only addresses helping the most vulnerable but also provides means for friendly nations to collaborate with Liberia in this endeavor.
She highlighted the need to explore investment opportunities between the two countries. Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Nyanti also had a meeting with Jassin bin Saif Al Sulaitin, Minister of Transport for Qatar, concentrating on economic diplomacy. They spoke about bettering marine and air transportation to support Liberia’s private industry expansion. She also requested Qatar Airways to accompany the QFFD mission when they pay a visit to Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the upcoming weeks.
Both sessions addressed possible expenditures in fields including mining, education, transportation, agriculture, infrastructure, health, and technology. Particularly in sectors such manufacturing, aviation, forestry, and road development, Nyanti urged her Qatari colleagues to invest in Liberia. She also advocated public-private alliances that would help Liberia and the surrounding areas.
Visiting Qatar as a guest of Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Emir’s queen mother, Minister Nyanti will deliver a keynote address on “Education in Peril: The Human Cost of War.” Expert with knowledge of locations such as South Sudan, Yemen, and Liberia, she will discuss how war affects children and educational facilities. Drawing on her recent UN speech on youth peace and security, she intends to argue for financing initiatives targeted at young people in Liberia.
Head of the Qatar Foundation Sheikha Moza supervises a number of projects including the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), Doha Family Initiative (DFI), and EARTHNA, which highlight energy, climate change, ecosystems, and agriculture. The Qatar Foundation also hosted Minister Nyanti to explore potential partnerships across their various programs.
