Monrovia, Liberia – The U-18 and U-20 national handball teams of Liberia have formally left for Lomé, Togo, where they will participate in the IHF Trophy Africa Zone III Tournament from April 7–12, 2026. The 36-person delegation is headed by J. Aratus Larkpor, President of the Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA), and Hon. Steve Tequah, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports. Among them is Miss Marlee Velma Boakai, the daughter of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, who will act as the Ambassador Designate for Handball.

This marks the second time a Liberian handball team has traveled to Lomé, the first being in 2009. President Larkpor praised Angel Wings Airlines for pre-financing tickets, which ensured the teams’ participation.

Liberia will face regional rivals Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger, Nigeria, and hosts Togo. The delegation is set to return on April 13, with the tournament serving as the key qualifier for the Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Africa.
