Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Fire Service has reported 49 fire cases from January to March 2024. The LNFS report come in the wake of many fire incidents around the country especially Monrovia. The fire outbreak have affected many Liberians including low and high profile citizens.
The latest report captured the fire outbreak at the home of the Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, Speaker of the Liberian Legislature. On Sunday evening, April 14, 2024, Speaker Koffa home in the Reham Community, Paynesville, gutted fire causing major loss of property to the statesman and his family.
Twelve of the 49 fire incidents, according to LNFS, are classified as class “A,” “B,” and “C,” and they resulted in the deaths of eleven people and two injuries. The institution’s director general, Col. Warsuwah Barvoul, stated that these fire incidents had an impact on fifty-one occupants.
According to Col. Barvoul, the organization plan to start a national fire prevention awareness campaign in an effort to reduce the number of fire accidents. He added that raising awareness would mostly focus on teaching people how to keep their homes and communities free of fires.
