The 2022/2023 National County Sports meet will feature football and kickball matches between Nimba and Lofa Counties. On Wednesday at the SKD Sports Complex, they defeated Margibi and Bong Counties better. Nimba defeated Margibi 1-0 in the opening semifinal after converting Isaac Dayweah’s contentious early penalty. While the Lions of Lofa came from a goal down to whip Bong County 3-1 in the second semifinal.
A header by Alex Reeves gave Bong County a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, but former competition MVP James Tarpeh leveled the score from the penalty spot 24 minutes later. Jeremiah Johnson, the most feared striker for Lofa, made it 2-1 in first-half stoppage time before Lawrence Kumeh, the game’s top vote-getter, secured a 3-1 victory for Wologizi with a calm finish in the 18-yard box in the 70th minute.
In the kickball game, Nimba defeated Bong County 5-2 while in the other game, Lofa defeated Margibi 2-0. This Sunday, January 15, 2023, grand finals for both divisions are scheduled to take place at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville City.
