Monrovia, Liberia – Lofa County lighted up Nancy Doe Stadium in Kakata on Wednesday, when the county football and kickball teams defeated Group D hosts, Margibi County, to advance them to the quarterfinals of the 2023–2024 National County Sports Meet.
The Wolozisi boys won 2-0 despite playing nearly the whole second half with nine men after giving up two red cards, while the girls triumphed 1-0 thanks to a home drive.
In other football games, Nimba defeated Grand Kru 2-1 and Grand Cape Mount defeated Gbarpolu County 2-0.
For the first time in more than three seasons, hosts Rivergee County of Group A defeated Maryland 2-0 to have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals.
However, Bomi vs. Montserrado and Bong vs. Rivercess ended in 1-1 draws. The game between Sinoe County and Grand Geedeh was goalless. In the kickball category, Bomi and Rivergee Counties have also secured their respective spots in the quarterfinals.
