LPDP Youth League Gives Senator Joseph 72 Hours To Retract Statements of support Morris Saytuman

The Liberia People’s Democratic Party’s national youth league has set Montserrado County Senator Saah Joseph a Seventy-Two-hour deadline to withdraw statements supporting Morris Saytuman’s reelection as the senator of Bomi County. Recently, Senator Joseph endorsed Senator Morris Saytumah for reelection and offered to help him with bus service to help ease travel between Monrovia and Tubmanburg.

The recent endorsement of Senator Morris Saytumah’s reelection by Senator Saah Joseph in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, according to Robin George, National Chairman of the youth league, violates the coalition framework document. “To support our claim,” Mr. George said, “recently, Senator Joseph, who was elected on the coalition’s ticket with the support of our partisans in Montserrado County and high-ranking members of the Congress for Democratic Change, attended a political campaign in Tubmanburg, Bomi County and openly declared support for the reelection of Senator Saytumah, a steadfast member of the Unity Party.

He claims that if Senator Joseph does not withdraw his backing for Senator Saytumah’s re-election, the LPDP youth league will oppose the ongoing discussions on the signing of a new framework document that would include his re-election in Montserrado County. The Coalition for Democratic Change’s framework document is now being discussed, and George urged the Congress for Democratic Change to refrain from taking any action that might sabotage its goals and intentions. According to the National Chairman of the Youth League, it is worrying and alarming that some high-ranking coalition members are engaging in acts that have the potential to undermine the three constituent political parties’ discussions over a new coalition framework document.

The LPDP, which was established as an independent political party, joined the Coalition for Democratic Change in 2016 and provided resources like money, vehicles, and human capital to help the coalition win the 2017 election. The three political parties that made up the coalition the Congress for Democratic Change, the National Patriotic Party, and the LPDP would have taken part in the nation’s legislative and executive branches of government. However, due to a number of factors throughout the years, the LPDP and NPP have been reduced to observers in the state’s governance.

However, the LPDP youth league also took issue with J Alex Tyler, the former Speaker and current member of the CDC Governing Council, running for the senate seat in Bomi County in 2020. The LPDP youth league chairman continued, “Unfortunately and with the utmost dismay, the leadership of the coalition chose to endorse Edwin Snowe explicitly and covertly.” Evidence comes from Senator Snowe’s own public admission that President Weah sent him with solar lights, trucks loaded with bags of food, and other campaign assistance supplies.

the LPDP sees the same trend of activities in 2020 of supporting opposition candidates against its own political leader repeating in 2023.” The national youth league of the LPDP stated that it is addressing the issue at this time not because it thinks the senator running for re-election has the necessary support or popularity to prevail in the Bomi County poll. The teenagers made the point that they believe the same strategy and objectives are being employed against their political leader and the entire LPDP.
