Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian People Party, led by Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, has endorsed Joseph N. Boakai, the presidential candidate of the Unity Party, less than a day after the National Election Commission announced the dates of the 2023 presidential runoff. The Liberan People Party (LPP) is the first political party to declare its support for a candidate in the runoff.

Cllr. Gongloe who ones serve as president of the Liberia Bar Association (LIBA) has always critizes the issue of corruption. The ones Poorman Lawyer has always critized the Weah government of corrupton and other forms of bad governance under the Weah adminstration.

With the latest decision from the LPP, Liberians are not surprised as they believed he was going to support the former Vice President under the Ellen Johnson government and the political leader and presidential candidate of the Unity Party.

In an interview with Reports231, Abraham Grey stated that Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe is a man of his word, and as such, he was aware that the lawyer would be collaborating with the UP presidential contender, who he asserted had no criminal history despite nearly 35 years of public service.

The choice is based on the hope that the party they choose to support would act in the best interests of the Liberian people, according to LPP National Chairman Nyanqui Zaza, who made this announcement on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at a news conference in Congo Town.

” Fellow Liberian, partisans, supporters, and well wishers of Liberia, today we are faced with an extremely difficult choice between two parties that were fierce criticized by our partisans and supporters at home and abroad. We hereby place on notice the party that we are declaring support for today, that upon it’s failure to meet our expectations, we will be the first to condemn and critize them.
From the broad consultations that we have conducted among our partisans and supporters at home and abroad, as well as our conclusion that the party (CDC) in power placed Liberia in a virtual intensive care unit, we hereby declare that our party will support, the only opposition (UP) that was chosen by the Liberian people,to compete with the ruling CDC.”
